U-Turn For Christ

Vision

Pastor Chuck Smith"All of us are aware of the great harm done by drugs.  When a person has once been captivated by the desire for drugs, how difficult it is to see him set free.  In fact, we're convinced that there is only one thing that can set a man free from alcoholism and drug abuse, and that is Jesus Christ.  So many of these fellows have burned bridges behind them.  They have no place to go.  That is one of the big problems for a man who is wanting to get out of the hell that drug abuse brings him to.  There needs to be a place where he can go and get cleaned up.  A place where he can have a powerful Christian influence . . . and he can be set free."

Pastor Chuck Smith, Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, CA.

u-turn logoU-Turn For Christ is a Christian discipleship ranch facility involved in volunteer work throughout the Lexington community.  Stephen Mattier, the local coordinator for the U-Turn ministry, states that U-Turn for Christ's primary purpose is to help men who have found themselves caught in the deception of alcohol and or drug abuse. The ranch provides an opportunity to grow spiritually in the Christian faith as the men study and apply the Word of God to their lives. The ranch is a non-smoking facility that is not co-ed.

The  first phase of the ministry requires a minimum of two months for completion. Each day the men rise early and begin their day with the Word of God. The men gather in the morning and have a devotion in the book of proverbs. Each man reads a verse from the chapter, in turn. Once the chapter has been read completely, they each take a turn expressing which verse they will choose to try to apply to their lives that day. They spend their day involved in work and chores either on the property or at one of the locations where we volunteer on a daily basis.

uTurn PhotoThe Bible tells us in Ephesians 4:28 "Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need." This is why we work unto the Lord and not for personal gain.  The men are doing these tasks for others and to meet the needs of others.  By this, the men also benefit from learning strong, disciplined work ethics.  Every evening is spent gathering once again to close the day out right, in the Word.

The men have the opportunity to take advantage of phase 2 upon completion of the Ranch phase for an additional six months of growth and grounding.  This is an optional part of the ministry that is strongly recommended to all.
